SHOPTALK FALL 2024 RECAP
How Leading Brands Are Investing in Brand, Omni-Channels Sales, and Global Markets
Couldn’t make it to Chicago for Shoptalk Fall? In this post, Jamie Bolton gives us a rundown of the key trends and strategies brands are betting on in Fall 2024:
🔑 Invest in Brand: Investing in brand has never been more important. Full-funnel strategies on Paid Social are now crucial, allowing brands to both build awareness and drive conversions in-platform. As Kyle Leahy from Glossier puts it, “People want to be part of something bigger.”
🛍️ Go Omni for Growth: As D2C growth hits limits, embracing an omni-channel sales approach is key to staying resilient. Brands like Solo Stove and Chinese Laundry are leading with strategies that don’t replicate D2C on third-party retail, finding unique advantages in each.
✈️ Go Global: With lower CPMs and wide-open markets, the EU offers significant growth opportunities. Effective localization strategies are essential for US brands looking to expand abroad.

Samsung Expands Foldable Lineup to Attract New Customers
Samsung is reportedly strategizing a significant overhaul of its foldable phone lineup, aiming to invigorate its market presence. Despite the initial allure of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, sales have not met expectations, with a notable shortfall from the projected 9 to 10 million units. The challenge lies in attracting new customers, as current sales predominantly stem from existing foldable users upgrading their devices.
In response, Samsung plans to diversify its offerings with up to four new foldable phones and a folding tablet, potentially including a more affordable Flip and a "tri-fold" version akin to Huawei's Mate XT. This expansion is intended to broaden the appeal and accessibility of foldables, addressing the sluggish sales of the Flip in particular.
The company's ambition extends to innovative designs, with rumors of a rollable phone or tablet slated for a 2025 release. This move reflects Samsung's commitment to maintaining its competitive edge in the rapidly evolving tech landscape, where innovation is paramount.
Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite sets a new standard with 8 years of OS and security updates, surpassing previous norms. This commitment to longevity enhances device sustainability and user experience. Major brands like Samsung and Xiaomi are expected to adopt this, reflecting a shift towards durable, reliable tech solutions.

Did You Know Alexa Was Not Always Called Alexa?
Did you know “Alexa” wasn’t always Amazon’s smart assistant’s name? In its earliest development stages, it was called something altogether different.

Panasonic has just launched two new camcorders, aimed at the family moviemaker and budding filmmakers. The HC-VX3 offers 4K shooting, whilst the simpler HC-V900 offers 2K video resolution. With new consumer-focused camcorders rarely being launched nowadays - and companies like Canon discontinuing its cheaper models - so the new additions are a very welcome addition.
Camcorders had their heyday back in the 1990s, but have become less popular as smartphones and video cameras have become such a viable alternative to the casual moviemaker. However, the form factor and the huge built-in zoom mean that the modern digital camcorder remains a very sensible option for many filmmakers.
